Sinner : "I couldn't sleep the night before the final (at Miami in 2021)". Jannik Sinner was way too strong for Daniil Medvedev in the semi-finals at Miami. The Italian won in 2 sets (6-1, 6-2) and appear unbeatable on Stadium Court. As he said right after the match, he really seems to be another player, probably the best in the World right now. Jannik Sinner: "I'm another player now, another person. I remember the night before the final (Miami 2021), I coudn't sleep, I sweating during the night (laugh). Now I handdle the situation much, much better. I'm just excited and happy to come back, and hopefully I can play some good tennis Sunday. For me it's an important tournament. If I can get the title, good, if not I had another great chance. And, for me, it's just a great experience. I will be able to sleep this night."
Dimitrov : "Alcaraz is like an explosive. He's amazing." Grigor Dimitrov played an amazing match to beat Carlos Alcaraz in Miami's quarter-finals on Thursday. He was very pleased with his performance and that's what he told us in press conference right after the match. The Bulgarian also explained how much respect and admiration he has for the Spaniard. Grigor Dimitrov: "I feel good. But I'm not celebrating anything yet since I have to play again tomorrow (Friday). So I'm trying to stay on point. This how our sport his. You appreciate it of course, you're very happy with the current win, but the you have to quickly move on and start focusing on the next match (against Zverev). At the moment, I'm just really pleased that I was able to get trough that match, to get trough in such a manner. And I already have an other match to play. But, again, very proud of myself that I was able to such a good and clean match overall. Very grateful to be again that far into a Masters 1000 event. I'm very excited for what's next. Of course when you win a match this way, you can feel like you have the key against you're opponent. But again, Carlos is such a... I always see him like an explosive (a firecrack). He's amazing. I love watching him play. I love practising against him, competing against him. I mean, I'm 12 years older than him so it's honestly a lot of fun for me to challenge myself. It's a super opportunity for me. But also, you cannot really let him hit the ball. We saw what happened when I was up a break in the second set. He broke me straight up to come back to 4-4, and there was absolutely nothing I could have done. So, can I get mad ? Yes I can, but there was no reason for me to do so. I just had to stay patient. I was aware of what was happening and how it was happening. And I knew that if I had an other chance and opportunity, I could really like step in. And that's what happened, I think, at 5-4 to conclude the match. I didn't pull back, I kept on believing in the game that I was playing and, again, the execution was very good".
Alcaraz : "Dimitrov made me feel like I'm 13 years old. It was crazy!" Carlos Alcaraz lost against an outstanding Grigor Dimitrov in Miami's quarter-finals on Thursday. He could't do anything to resist to the Bulgarian's amazing level of tennis. That's what everybody felt watching the match, and that's what the Spaniard confirmed in press conference. Carlos Alcaraz: "I think he played an amazing tennis, almost perfect. I couldn't find solutions, I couldn't find the way to make him feel unconfortable on the court. It was a great match from his side. I think I played a good tennis. I mean, I left the court thinking that probably I could have change my game a little bit earlier in the match. But anyway, I feel like I played a good tennis, not perfect but a good one. I feel... let's say... I have a lot of frustration right now because he made me feel like I was 13 years old again (laugh). It was crazy. I was talking to my team, saying I don't know what I have to do, I don't find his weakness. That's why I have frustration right now. But in terms of tennis, I left the court happy with my level. I really want to see the stats. Probably the stats gonna give him a 10 out of 10, or 9.9. Something like that. But, I don't know. Once you step on the court, it's even tougher to find solutions. To see where you have to go or what you have to do. But, probably the next match that I will play against him, I'm sure that it's gonna be different. I'll try to do things differently. And let's see what it's gonna be. But, you know, seeing Grigor playing a this level, it's really tough to play against him".
